Asphalt Subgrade Preperation

AZ Grading & Paving

If you are looking for Grading & Paving in the East Valley such as Gilbert, Mesa, Chandler, & Queen Creek.  AZ Grading & Paving provides professional asphalt services from top to bottom.  Whether its new asphalt, asphalt repairs, or seal coating.

Here we are starting the asphalt subgrade grading.  The first process is the Dirt Subgrade.  We take our blade and clear the area and prep that road or parking lot

ABC Subgrade for Pavement Road

After we cut the dirt subgrade, we then start to bring in ABC.  ABC is the base course of any pavement parking lot, road, or driveway.  Think of Pavement Grading as creating a mat for the asphalt to lay on.

The reason you need a mat is because asphalt is actually a moving product.  Pavement moves through it’s entire lifespan.  Pavement movement has it’s pro’s and con’s.

Asphalt Placement

Asphalt Paving can be done in lifts up to 4″ thick.  While most asphalt parking lots are only 3″ thick and most asphalt roadways are only 2″ thick, we can lay up to 4″ at one time.

Every application calls for a different asphalt solution.

Professional Asphalt Installation is the key to bringing value to your project.

  • 1. Site Preparation:

    • Clearing the area of debris, rocks, and vegetation is crucial.
    • Proper drainage must be ensured to prevent water from pooling and damaging the pavement.
    • Grading the area to the desired slope and profile sets the foundation for proper water runoff.
    2. Base Installation:
    • A stable base, typically made of compacted aggregate, is essential for load-bearing capacity and longevity.
    • The base layer provides structural support and prevents the asphalt from settling unevenly.
    • Proof rolling and undercutting may be necessary to address any weak spots in the subgrade.

3. Asphalt Mix Production:

  • The asphalt mix is a carefully crafted combination of aggregates, binder (bitumen), and filler.
  • The specific mix design is tailored to the project’s needs, considering traffic volume, climate, and intended use.
  • The mix is produced at an asphalt plant to ensure quality and consistency.
4. Asphalt Placement
  • We lay asphalt in lifts according to thickness of pavement.  If a single lift is greater than 3″ or 4″ depending on the rock size.  We may lay it in multiple lifts.
  • Once we know how many lifts we are going to place we adjust our skid to spread a certain thickness of asphalt.  Lets say for a 3″ lift we may set the skid up to lay 4″ and then compact it down to 3′ with our rollers.
  • We ensure that the new pavement is smooth without ups and downs.
